➗ If Your Child Is Taking Algebra I?

Most students begin taking Algebra I in 8th grade, making it one of the first truly foundational high school-level math courses. It is also the beginning of the math concepts that continue throughout high school and are tested on the SAT.

Because of this, it’s important for parents to pay close attention to their child’s performance in Algebra I. A strong understanding of these concepts will make future math classes easier and help prepare students for standardized testing. If your child begins to struggle, addressing it early can prevent small gaps in understanding from becoming much bigger challenges later.

✍️ Strong Writing Skills Matter More Than Ever

Writing is a skill that follows students throughout high school, college, and beyond. Whether they’re writing essays, scholarship applications, college admissions essays, emails, or eventually communicating in a professional career, being able to write clearly and effectively is essential.

Encourage your child to take writing seriously in every class—not just English. Strong writing is one of the most valuable skills they can develop.

• Freshmen: High school is where your child’s GPA begins—and every semester counts. Encourage strong study habits from day one because these grades become part of the transcript colleges will review.

• Sophomores: Sophomore year is the time to build a strong academic foundation. Continue challenging coursework, stay involved in extracurricular activities, and begin thinking about future SAT/ACT preparation.

• Juniors: SAT/ACT preparation should already be underway. Fall testing dates arrive quickly, and starting early gives students the best opportunity to reach their goal scores.

• Seniors: College application season has begun! Don’t wait until deadlines approach to work on essays, applications, scholarships, and supplemental writing. We also have a dedicated College Advisor, Yousef, who works one-on-one with students throughout the college admissions process, helping them navigate applications, essays, college selection, and more.  He offers a free 15-minute zoom to families to explain his services and answer questions!
